I created this podcast about my journey in school learning to read in the 1970's.
Hi, My name is Julie Lee and I teach kindergarten and first grade looping with my students. I am currently going to teach first grade with this group of wonderful children. My journey with reading was difficult growing up, it did not come easy for me and I am so glad to be a part of a warm and caring staff where teaching children to read is an individual and meaningful journey for my students. Growing up with the frustrations of ability grouping, board work, red marking pens and everyone doing the same thing at the same time was motivation to become a teacher where individual differences were very important. I truly believe in taking each child where they are at and helping them to grow on their own time line. If you grew up in the 1970's you will probably share similar memories in some of these pictures in my podcast. Enjoy!
